But this kind of spontaneous travel allows for flexibility and the ability to make new memories on a budget and with limited time…

 

 

A Toy Story

 

War and play. A dichotomy that no one would think to put together. But this artist thought to do so. In the Martin Museum of Art, you can see how Fort Worth painter John Hartley integrated both war and play into his paintings in order to show a larger meaning.

As you walk around the Martin Museum of Art, the pieces of art you see may look like detailed photographs of vintage toys, but in reality they are intricate paintings done in a style of soft layers with a diffused background, giving it the realistic, photographic look. Each painting is full of color and detail bringing each toy to life. The perspective of each of the paintings brings the viewer in, making you feel as if you are the one playing with the toy. Nostalgia fills the air as you look around, remembering when you played with those toy soldiers, that doll, and those Rock’em Sock’em Robots…
